You are welcome for this Baked Ziti Recipe , make it and you’ll see.I have totally been in a casserole binge the past month and my family is NOT complaining. That’s because my casseroles tend to have cheese…. let me correct that…. my casseroles have TONS of cheese

Not only tons of cheese but I always make sure to have that top layer of cheese – you know what I am talking about – that cheese that gets all golden baked goodness

And…. now I am hungry.

Enjoy this baked Ziti recipe — it simply rocks I am beyond confident that if you make this baked ziti you and anyone else who tries it will love it

One more note – I know the pasta used is NOT ziti …. My super market Winco did not carry ziti — how does a store not have ziti is BEYOND me. You can use Penne for your baked ziti, it just wont have those ridges to hold the saucy goodness, but you’ll enjoy your baked ziti none the less- trust me!

This recipe is gluten -free. If you have not tried Barilla gluten – free pasta make sure you do — it really rocks ( not sponsored….. but if you want to send me a truck of Barilla gluten – free pasta I would not object!

If you do not want to use chicken broth you can use vegetable broth

This recipe is enough for 4 extremely hungry people or 6 semi – hungry people

I went a little crazy with the final product pictures — seriously this dish cannot take a bad picture!

Most photogenic baked ziti ever!

First on BAM!

This was very yummy. Kids wanted to dig in before I even put in the oven. Next time, I think I’ll add even more cheese into the meat. Thank you!

I made baked ziti last week (slightly different recipe, I posted it on my blog here http://blackhamboys.blogspot.com/2011/10/baked-ziti.html) … I’ll have to give this version a try. I was having my folks over for dinner and my dad needs things gluten-free. Very happy that you can just pick up GF noodles at the supermarket (I had to use penne for his as well). Great leftovers and easy to make a double batch and freeze it for an easy meal in the future.

I just moved in with the fiance and I’m the one who cooks since he works so late. I’ve always had a love affair with ziti and the picture of this looked so beautiful I had to make it. It tasted amazing! I never would have thought of putting chicken broth in the sauce and I could tell how much it improved the recipe. I didn’t have parmesan or ziti noodles, so I used colby-jack and bow ties, but it was still fantastic. My fiance has requested I make it every week!

Sorry if this is a silly question! But did you cook the pasta separately before you added it to the sauce/broth?

    • Lindsey

I was wondering the same thing!

      • ShiNiese

I cooked the pasta right in with the sauce. I put it in the skillet after I added the chicken broth and let it cook, along with some water, before I added the tomato sauce. It worked well, and only dirtied one pan before putting it in the 2qt baking dish.

Could you make this dish the night before?

    • Sara

      Yes you can

I made this last night and it went down a storm. My fussy son and (not so fussy) husband both commented on how nice it was – now that’s a result! From my point of view, I also loved it because it was so easy to make. I’m in the UK and used Loyd Grossman’s Tomato and Garlic sauce, so it didn’t even need the fresh garlic. Definitely a keeper.

I am so glad you liked it so much 🙂

The baked ziti was very good, definitely a crowd-pleaser. I did add more Mozzarella cheese though; 8 oz seems like it would not be enough. My husband also suggested using ricotta in addition to the other cheeses, to make it more lasagna-like.

  • Julie

This looks delicious! Some recipes call for cooking the pasta first and others don’t; do you suggest cooking the pasta before baking the dish?

  • Michelle G

This was great! Lots of cheese is always a winner!!!! Thanks you!
