2023 Toyota GR Supra: Choosing the Right Trim (2024)

Although it looks like a quiet year for this entertaining rear-wheel-drive sports coupe, a significant change has occurred with the 2003 Toyota GR Supra: All models powered by the 3.0-liter inline-6 engine are now available with a manual transmission, a no-cost option sure to please enthusiastic drivers.

The 6-speed manual transmission uses an existing housing, but Toyota has removed some sound-deadening material to reduce weight and installed a large-diameter clutch to handle all that delicious torque. Additionally, Toyota equips all manual GR Supra models with a limited-slip differential and lower final-drive gearing for snappier off-the-line response and better acceleration.

2023 Toyota GR Supra

Otherwise, not much has changed for the 2023 Toyota GR Supra, which continues to be a mechanical cousin of the 2-seat BMW Z4.

There is one notable exception: Toyota will build 500 A91-MT Special Edition cars for the U.S. market. This new Supra model, equipped exclusively with the manual transmission, is available in two exclusive exterior colors (Burnout or CU Later Gray) and gets a Hazelnut-colored leather interior, unique badging, red strut tower bracing, and an Alcantara shift knob.

The GR Supra 2.0 remains the base model. A turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine sends 255 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters.

The turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-6 in the other 2023 Supra models is a far sportier choice. It smoothly sends 382 hp and 368 lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels via the 8-speed automatic transmission or the new 6-speed manual.

The EPA rates the 4-cylinder 2023 Toyota GR Supra 2.0 at 25 mpg city/31 mpg highway/27 mpg combined. The 6-cylinder Supra 3.0 is only slightly thirstier, returning 23 mpg city/31 mpg highway/26 mpg combined with the automatic. With the 6-speed manual, the Supra 3.0 comes in at 19 mpg city/27 mpg highway/21 mpg combined.

Toyota sells the 2023 GR Supra in the following four trim configurations: 2.0, 3.0, 3.0 Premium, and A91-MT. Let’s take a look at each.

2023 Toyota GR Supra 2.0: $44,040

The GR Supra 2.0, available only with the automatic transmission, features 18-inch cast-alloy wheels, an aerodynamic undertray, dual rear exhausts, and an 8.8-inch digital gauge cluster.

Also standard on the 2.0: sport seats trimmed in black Alcantara and leather, auto-leveling LED headlights, and a leather-wrapped tilt/telescoping steering wheel. The 2-seat co*ckpit also boasts carbon-fiber trim, dual-zone automatic climate control, a 4-speaker audio system, and an 8.8-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth connectivity.

Other standard fare on the Supra 2.0 includes heated outboard mirrors, rain-sensing wipers, paddle shifters, and a robust safety suite that consists of a forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, a lane-departure warning (with steering assist), and active high-beam headlights.

We recommend the Safety & Technology Package, which has adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and parking sensors with braking.

Adding the $1,095 destination fee to the Supra 2.0’s base price brings the total to $45,135. With $0 down, financing for 60 months at 5% interest works out to approximately $852 per month. See 2023 Toyota GR Supra 2.0 models for sale near you

2023 Toyota GR Supra 2.0 includes:

  • Launch control – With this feature, even novice drivers can get the absolute best acceleration from their Supra.
  • Dual-zone automatic climate control – This system provides separate temperature settings for each person in the Supra. It automatically maintains preset temperatures.
  • Rain-sensing wipers – When moisture is sensed on the windshield, the wipers are automatically activated. The wiper speed adjusts to the volume of the rain.

2023 Toyota GR Supra 3.0: $53,000

The Supra 3.0 builds on the 2.0 with the potent 6-cylinder engine, which puts out 382 hp at 5,800 rpm and 369 lb-ft of torque at only 1,800 rpm.

But it’s far more than an engine transplant. The 2023 Toyota GR Supra 3.0 also gets the available 6-speed manual transmission and retuned steering and suspension for better cornering balance. Specific hardware unique to the Supra 3.0 includes forged 19-inch alloy wheels, an electronic limited-slip rear differential, and 13.7-inch Brembo front brakes with 4-piston calipers. (The 2.0 has single-piston front brakes with 13.9-inch rotors.)

With the manual, Toyota says it has tuned the traction control to work as smoothly as it does with the automatic while ensuring an ideal balance of agility and stability when exiting a corner on the throttle. Moreover, Toyota has adopted a new Anti-Roll Program (ARP) for the manual and automatic Supra transmissions. It intervenes more quickly than the stability control during a sudden loss of grip when the suspension is in its sportiest setting. There’s also a Track mode that allows for easy drifting but a reduced chance of spinning, thanks to the quick modulation of engine torque.

The GR Supra 3.0 also comes standard with a 10-speaker audio system, heated 14-way power-adjustable seats, and sport pedals. The same highly recommended Safety & Technology Package available on the 2.0 model is available on the 3.0. But be warned: This option package is available only on a Supra 3.0 with an automatic transmission.

Adding the $1,095 destination fee to the Supra 3.0’s base price equals $54,095. Financing with $0 down for 60 months at 5% interest works out to a monthly payment of about $1,021. See 2023 Toyota GR Supra 3.0 models for sale near you

2023 Toyota GR Supra 3.0 includes:

  • Turbocharged 6-cylinder engine – This 3.0-liter straight-6, shared with the BMW Z4, smoothly produces 382 hp and 368 lb-ft of torque.
  • Electronic rear differential – This diff transfers torque to the outside rear wheel when exiting a corner, keeping the inside rear from spinning wildly under power.
  • Available manual transmission – Enthusiasts, rejoice! A 6-speed manual transmission is now available on the Supra 3.0. It’s a no-cost option.

2022 Toyota GR Supra 3.0 Premium: $56,150

What do you get for your extra $3,150 (compared to the standard Supra 3.0)?

Quite a bit. The GR Supra 3.0 Premium has red and black-trimmed leather upholstery, a color head-up display, navigation, wireless Apple CarPlay, and wireless smartphone charging. You also get a new 12-speaker JBL surround-sound audio system. That’s six speakers for each seat.

The 3.0 Premium also features Toyota Supra Connect, a technology suite offering emergency 911 calling, real-time traffic information, roadside assistance, and an available iPhone app that allows you to remotely lock or unlock the vehicle and even activate vent fans.

Options? Premium models equipped with the automatic transmission are available with the Driver Assist Package, which includes dynamic radar cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and parking sensors with automatic braking.

If you order a Supra 3.0 Premium with the no-cost manual gearbox, its Driver Assist Package includes conventional (not adaptive) cruise control, the expected blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and parking sensors (with automatic braking).

Adding the $1,095 destination fee to the 2023 Toyota GR Supra 3.0 Premium’s base price totals $57,245. Financing with $0 down for 60 months at 5% interest works out to about $1,080 per month. See 2023 Toyota GR Supra 3.0 Premium models for sale near you

2023 Toyota GR Supra 3.0 Premium includes:

  • Head-up display – This full-color HUD projects vital vehicle information onto the back of the windshield, helping drivers keep their eyes on the road.
  • Toyota Supra Connect – This technology suite offers emergency 911 calling, real-time traffic information, roadside assistance, and an available iPhone app that remotely locks or unlocks the vehicle.
  • Apple CarPlay – It’s so nice to have the capabilities of your iPhone integrated into the Supra’s infotainment screen. It’s wireless, just like the Premium’s standard smartphone charger.

2023 Toyota GR Supra A91-MT: $58,845

Toyota plans to build only 500 of these. What’s so special about this limited-edition A91-MT?

It’s a sharp-looking Supra 3.0 Premium with a manual transmission and a few extra modifications. Most notable are seats covered in hazelnut-colored leather and an Alcantara shift knob (with the Gazoo Racing logo).

Visual cues setting the A91 apart are a red Supra badge and red brake calipers emblazoned with “GR Supra.” And when you lift the hood, you’ll see red strut tower braces.

More readily noticeable are two new exterior paint colors unique to the 2023 Toyota GR Supra A91-MT: Burnout (a matte white) and CU Later Gray. With either color, forged 19-inch alloy wheels in Frozen Gunmetal Gray complement the A91-MT’s look.

Adding the $1,095 destination fee to the A91-MT’s base price equals $59,440. With $0 down, financing for 60 months at 5% interest works out to a monthly payment of about $1,122. See 2023 Toyota GR Supra A91-MT models for sale near you
